Center for Research on Global Catholicism

The Center for Research on Global Catholicism supports research on the ways and means in which Catholicism migrated across time and space to become a global religion, entangled with imperial ambitions, in excess of official intentions, mobilized by material objects, affective relationships, politics, theologies, epidemics and more. Its goal is to foster an environment that makes St. Louis University a central hub for scholarship on global Catholicism, and that bolster’s the university’s mission as a Jesuit institution dedicated to global engagement, academic rigor and social justice. In the past academic year, the CRGC has funded travel and presentations from scholars such as Jennifer Scheper-Hughes of UC Riverside, Karin Vélez of Macalester College, Miguel Valerio of Washington University, and John McGreevy of Notre Dame University.
